Moving Contact+Organization to a Contact+Invidual

[ Edited ]

One of my customers unfortunately has a few Contacts that are part of bona fide, multi-contact Organizations.   These need to be moved out of the multi-contact Organizations and into IndividualOrganizations.

I have a few ideas, but they are all terribly inefficient (such as copying the Contact data back into a new Lead and re-running all of our workflow that triggers when Leads get converted.   I did test what it would be to take a test Contact in a multi-Contact Organization and then put him in a new Organization named with his full name, but that just made a coincidentally named multi-contact Organization, not an IndividualOrganiation.

Any ideas?

thank,

I've been poking around and I think I've
come up with the best solution -- please let me know if you've got a
more efficient idea.

  1. Clone contact - don't save yet
  2. Clear Organization field
  3. Save new contact, and it will receive one of those magical IndividualOrganizations
  4. Alter the name of the original Contact to show it is defunct (I just add an X to the last name)
  5. For all related list items, where applicable, change the related Contact to the new Contact

If you've got a lot of
these or massive related lists, this will not be fun at all.
Fortunately, we have 13 contact in this state with, at most, a few
related list items a piece.

I believe if you make some of the system fields visible on the page layout, you can modify the values per contact to allow for a conversion/creation of one to one account & household, I can't remember fhe field names off hte top of my head.
